North County Chess Club

Join the Club

Everyone is welcome to join our chess club. We accept members of any age or skill level. We play rated tournament games but don't let that scare you, it is really fun. You will be paired against opponents of varrying strengths that will test your skill and make you a better player.

When We Meet

We meet every Thursday night except on holidays. See the tournament schedule page for exact dates. You should arrive by 6:45, games start at 7pm. You can leave immediately after your game or you can stay and watch or chat with others.

Where We Play

We play at 2993 Mac Donald St, Oceanside, CA. We are close to San Marcos, Vista, Escondido, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Poway and just a short trip on the I-15 from San Diego, Temecula and Murrieta. It is a nice, family friendly environment.

How We Play

We play rated Swiss format chess tournaments using USCF Rules. This means you play one game a week for five weeks then a new tournament starts. Each player starts with two hours on the clock, so a game can possibly last as long as four hours.

What to Bring

All you have to bring is yourself. You can bring a chess set and clock if you have them but don't worry if you don't, we can pair you with someone who does. Bring any snacks or drinks you might want.

Membership Costs

All club members must have a current membership ($40) with the US Chess Federation. Also, there is a $25 tournament entry fee (one tournament lasts 5 weeks) payable by cash or check at the event. There are no club dues.

Before You Come

You must sign up for a yearly membership with the US Chess Federation ($40), you can't play without this. It can be done online quickly and easily.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us.
