Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I join in the middle of a chess tournament, or do I have to wait for the start of a new tournament?
A: We suggest joining tournaments within the first three rounds. If it is the fourth or fifth round, we suggest waiting until the start of the next tournament. Please read the Join page and follow the instructions if you are new to the club. Also, please show up at least 10 minutes early.

Q: Are children able to join the club and participate in chess tournaments?
A: Yes. We have players of all ages participate in our tournaments, includig very young players. Alternatively, the San Diego Chess Club and the Temecula Chess Club both offer scholastic events.

Q: Does the club have any kind of church or religious affiliation?
A: We rent space at a church, but we have no religious affiliation. All players from any religious background are welcome.

Q: Do you play casual games or just tournaments?
A: We do not play casual games. All of our games are USCF-rated tournament format. Try Vinaka Cafe in Carlsbad or your local senior center for casual games.

Q: Do you offer chess lessons for me or my child?
A: We do not offer chess lessons, only tournament games. Check with the Temecula Chess Club for lessons.

Q: Do you still play games in Escondido?
A: No, we moved to Oceanside.

Q: Are there any other clubs in the area?
A: Yes, check out the San Diego Chess Club or the Temecula Chess Club.
