Join the Club

Everyone is welcome to join our chess club. We accept members of any age or skill level. We play rated tournament games, but don't let that scare you, it is really fun. You will be paired against opponents of varying strengths to test your skill and make you a better player.

How to Join

  1. Have an active USCF membership.
  2. Complete the Club Sign-up Form.
  3. Read Information for New Members.
  4. Arrive early and pay the $25 entry fee.

When & Where

We meet at 2993 Mac Donald St, Oceanside, every Thursday night except on holidays. See the tournament schedule page for exact dates. You should arrive by 6:45pm, Games will start at 7pm. You can leave immediately after your game, or stay and watch other games.

Tournament Format

We play rated Swiss format chess tournaments using USCF Rules. This means you play one game a week for five weeks, and then a new tournament starts. Each player starts with one hour and forty-five minutes on the clock, so a game can last as long as three and a half hours.

Membership Costs & Tournament Fees

All club members must have a current membership ($45 annually) with the US Chess Federation (USCF). You must sign up with USCF before you can play tournament games. The USCF is a national organization that rates tournaments and provides you with a nationally recognized rating.

Also, there is a $25 tournament entry fee (one tournament lasts five weeks). This is paid to the club by cash or Venmo at the event.

Club Sign-Up Form

Members who have never played at this club must fill out this form. If you have previously played in our tournaments, you do not need to fill it out again. This is not a tournament registration form, you must register for each tournament in person.
